Chloé is the chic-sounding name that, in 1952, a young Gaby Aghion (born Gabriella Hanoka), Egyptian by birth but Parisian by adoption, chose for her Maison. She preferred it to her own both for its musicality and due to the historical context of the time, when the taboo of the independent working woman was not yet overcome. The resulting style is romantic and elegant, yet with a deeply bohemian soul. Artists such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Phoebe Philo grew within the Maison as the creative directors.
